What Is Land Clearing?
Land clearing removes trees, brush, stumps, and other vegetation from a property to prepare it for development, construction, agriculture, or improved use. The scope varies widely based on your goals:
Complete Clearing
Removes all vegetation and prepares bare ground. Typical for building sites, septic installations, and new driveways.
Selective Clearing
Removes specific trees and brush while preserving desirable vegetation. Common when you want to maintain shade trees.
Brush Clearing
Focuses on underbrush, small saplings, and overgrown vegetation without necessarily removing large trees.
We work with you to understand your vision and clear accordingly. Need individual trees removed? See our tree removal service.
When Do You Need Land Clearing?
New Home Construction
Before building, you need a cleared and level pad. This includes removing trees in the footprint, clearing access for construction vehicles, and creating space for well and septic systems.
Septic System Installation
Septic systems require significant cleared area for the tank, drain field, and equipment access. Proper drainage planning is essential for septic success.
Driveway Installation
A new driveway needs a cleared path from the road to your building site. We can also handle driveway grading and gravel installation.
Wildfire Risk Reduction
Creating defensible space around structures by clearing brush and dead vegetation reduces wildfire risk.
Land Clearing in Mountain Terrain
Western North Carolina presents unique challenges for land clearing:
- Steep Slopes: Much of our region sits on hillsides. Clearing must account for erosion control, equipment limitations, and drainage patterns.
- Rocky Ground: The Smoky Mountain foothills have shallow soil over bedrock. Stumps may have root systems anchored in rock.
- Access Limitations: Many properties have narrow, winding driveways or no road access at all. Getting equipment to the site requires planning.
- Erosion Concerns: Exposed soil on slopes erodes quickly. We plan clearing to minimize erosion and comply with local requirements.
Our crew has cleared land throughout Jackson County and surrounding areas. We understand these challenges and plan accordingly.
Our Land Clearing Process
Site Assessment
We walk your property, discuss your goals, identify trees to save or remove, note access challenges, and check for utilities.
Planning
We develop a clearing plan including equipment selection, staging areas, debris handling, and erosion control measures.
Clearing
Using chainsaws, skid steers, excavators, and chippers appropriate to the site, we clear the designated area.
Debris Processing
Trees are processed into logs, branches are chipped, and brush is removed. We can leave chips on-site as mulch or haul everything away.
Stump Removal
For building areas, stumps need to come out. We grind or excavate stumps depending on how the land will be used. See our stump grinding service for details.
Final Grading (Optional)
If you need rough grading for building or drainage, we can handle that as part of the project.
